Some of you are well aware of the profound impact that the preaching, teaching and writing of John Piper has had on my life. You can therefore imagine my surprise when the words ‘Piper’ and ‘Kenya’ appeared in the title of a post on the DG blog earlier this year. (I still plan to visit the church and college in Kijabe one of these days.)
Well apparently that’s not the end of the Piper-Kenya connection. Yesterday, John Piper’s daughter-in-law posted on their family blog about her son’s (make-believe) desire to go to Kenya. It’s really cute and precious, and Molly does a great job of drawing out the application for all parents who truly desire to have their children belong first and foremost to God.
Hi Chris,
Forwarded from Desiring God International Outreach, I received your email requesting a good place to worship and fellowship in Kenya. With a ministry titled “Gospel For Africa” that I founded in 2004, I have been evangelizing and teaching the “doctrines of grace” and reformed theology in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city, and some other less reached regions of Kenya. Also, I was married to a dear, godly Kenyan woman, named Lucy Nyambura in 2007. Like you, our hearts are ablaze with a love and burden for Kenya and East Africa! When in the field, I partner with a 36-year veteran missionary named Keith Underhill and his co-elder Michael Otieno at a church called “Trinity Baptist Church, located in Greenfields Estate, in the Donholm area of Nairobi. This is a reformed baptist church which is passionate about spreading the fame of Christ’s Name and reaching the lost with the Gospel of God’s sovereign grace! As I read your desire to find a church in Kenya which is passionate about missions and reformed theology, I thought that Trinity Baptist would be a great fit for you!
I have much more that I can share with you and helped you get connected to some great brothers and sisters in Kenya. In fact, the Piper reference in Kijabe might have beem related to our work in that area. During the last two years, we have had a brother serving full-time in Kijabe, and I loaded him up with Piper resources, which he just loves to share with others. Anyway, I could go on…
Please feel free to call me at 612-396-1900 (cell) or 651-756-1169 (home). I’m sure that I can introduce you to many in Kenya that would bless you richly. Hope to speak with you soon.
All for His glory, only by His grace,
Chad Carlson
